Duel match: Paul and Peter

VERSE:

Galatians 2:14

“But when I saw that they were deviating from the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas in front of everyone, “If you, who are a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel Gentiles to live like Jews?”

REFLECTION:

The text above has left us gripping on our seat and suspended in disbelief as if watching the unpredictable heavy scene of duel match between these two distinguished men of great faith, PETER and PAUL.

But Paul has pulled his pistol trigger to the very heart of Peter that awaken to his rebuke and the very blood of the true Gospel that has been threatened and falsified has stipulated in the following verse: (v.15-16)

“We who are Jews by birth and not “Gentile sinners” know that no one is justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ. And we have believed in Christ Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will be justified.”

Comparatively, in this present times, false teachers have convinced the Galatians that they are required to be circumcised. The result is division within their church (5:15). Paul gives numerous reasons why they should return to the simple truth of the gospel. The global message of Paul’s letter to the Galatians is that in Christ the ancient promises to Abraham have been fulfilled. The blessing and favour of God is now pouring out to the Gentiles (anyone not a Jew), because all that is needed to be right with God is faith in Christ.

PRAYER:

Abba Father, as we have now entered the torn veil through the innocent and sinless blood of Thy begotten Son, Lord Jesus Christ, we can cry out unto Thee. Father we praise and glorify Thy gracious and mighty name that grant us salvation. We don’t deserve Thy goodness and mercy because of our wicked nature but Christ has died on the cross for us to have righteousness. Grant us Oh Father, that this salvation of ours we come always to repent and with the fellowship of the Holy Spirit will edify and illumine us to preach and proclaim Thy Word especially to this fallen world. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
