VERSE:
Thou shalt fear the Lord Thy God; Him shalt thou serve, and to Him shalt thou cleave, and swear by His name.
REFLECTION:
Revisiting the Jews in those days they told to swear oaths only in the name of Jehovah their God. Jesus tells us it is better to swear no oath at all than to swear one and then break it, but there were times when an oath was appropriate. But our “yes” should mean “yes” and our “no” mean “no” regardless of whether it be uttered in the form of an oath or not.
PRAYER:
Oh Lord my Almighty Father, help me to walk and speak honestly with others and especially before you. If I swear an oath to you for marriage, in a court room, or for another purpose, let me keep it. Let my prayers to you be honest , not wit feigned words but with words that flow from my heart. You know my heart already, so there’s no reason to try to hide anything from you, Lord. Let my prayer be both reverant and honest. Amen.
